TOMORROW, April 21: Dr. Jonathan Rodgers, Choir Director at Lee University, will be visiting our class tomorrow to work with our students on their competition pieces. I collected a total of $20 from students for the gift card. This evening, I will pick up a $25 gift card and a thank you card for our kids to sign. Thanks to all who were able to contribute! Please make every effort to be in class and on time tomorrow morning.
OUTSTANDING CHORAL STUDENT: The class will nominate and vote on the Outstanding Choral Student in class on Tuesday, April 25. A senior choir member is selected for this prestigious award, upon nominations by the choir, with final selection by the music faculty. The award is given for significant contributions to the choir as a whole, as well as individual achievement.
***BAND CONCERT - Tuesday, MAY 2 (Required Date - Graded) All choir students are singing on the HHS Band concert on Tuesday, May 2. Concert Choir will be singing "Be Thou My Vision" with the Symphonic Band and Chamber Choir will be singing "Meridian" with the Wind Ensemble. This is the first time our choir and band have collaborated in such a way. It will be a wonderful experience for all of the students.
SIX FLAGS OVER GEORGIA COMPETITION - Saturday, MAY 6 I still need permission forms signed by parents for Harlie Davis, Michael Farr, Grayson Sims, Kelsey Warthen, & Kyle Hullander. The permission form & itinerary is attached to this email. Please print, sign, and return asap. (There are hard copies in a file folder outside of my classroom door.) Students will need to eat breakfast before they come. Arrive at HHS dressed in concert attire and bring a SMALL bag with a few snacks, clothes & shoes for Six Flags, sunscreen, and money for one meal in the park. The bus is full, so your bag should be able to fit below your bus seat. All students will receive ONE meal voucher that can be redeemed in the park.
***HHS CHOIR CONCERT REHEARSAL - Monday, MAY 8 (Required Date - Graded) Rehearsal is from 6:30-8:00 in the HHS theater. Students need to be present the entire time. We have much work to do with the accompanist, oboe, percussion, choreography, and walking up on the stage to "Jubilate". Be early to sign in. Be on the risers and ready to begin singing at 6:30. (Officers, section leaders, and other choir volunteers should be present at 6:00 to move the risers out to the stage and do mic checks.)
***HHS CHOIR SPRING CONCERT - Tuesday, May 9 (Required Date - Graded) Students report to choir room at 6:30. (Officers, section leaders, and other choir volunteers should be present at 6:00 to move the risers out to the stage and do mic checks.) Concert begins at 7:00. Ticket cost - Adult $5 and Students $3. If you cannot afford to purchase tickets for your family, please let me know. I don't want any parent to miss their kid's concert because of money. Students should wear their formal concert attire. Flicko's will be making DVDs.
GRADES Grades will be posted next week for progress reports. Check Parent Portal to see your student's grades.
* Participation - 50% - Attendance is crucial for choir class. If you miss choir class and have an excused absence, you need to come in for 25 minutes during lunch any day and practice concert choir music. This is how you make up your 20 point daily grade. Participation is 50% of your grade. It is essential for our group performances that you spend the time learning your individual parts.
* Performance - 30% - At this point, everyone has a 100% in this category for participation in LGPE.
* Music Theory - 20% - Google Classroom assignments and Quizzes
Thanks for being such wonderful and supportive parents. Have a great weekend.

I am excited to begin another new school year! I was inspired to love choral music by my middle/high school choral director, Dr. Jim Daugherty, University of Kansas. His dedication to choral excellence had a huge impact on my life. I hope to pass that gift along to you!
Participating in a choir requires hard work, but it is fun. I always expect your best effort in class. This will be a rewarding experience that will enrich your life. You will bring so much to this group, including your voice, your ideas, and most importantly your positive attitude. You will grow musically and work together as a team. We are going to have a great year!
Please read all the information in the links under "HOME". This should answer questions you may have about the choir class and leadership. Please add the required performance dates to your calendar today. I look forward to meeting and working with each of you.
