Georgia All-State Chorus is open to students grades 9-12. In order for a student to audition for Georgia All-State Chorus, the student must be enrolled in a chorus class at Heritage High School for both fall and spring semesters of the school year.
The first audition is in October or November (check calendar for dates). Students must sing their Italian aria, sing their major, minor, and chromatic scales, and sightread three examples. GMEA (Georgia Music Educators Association) charges a $25 registration fee for the first Region audition.
Should you make it past the first audition, there is another $20 acceptance fee plus cost of music. Students who pass the first audition must learn the All-State concert music using their hard copies of the music and digital sound files. They must pass a second audition in January. If they do not learn their music, they do not go to All-State. If they get 100% of the notes correct, they will receive a gold seal on their certificate.
Parents must secure a hotel room in Athens when their student passes the first audition. Make sure to reserve a room with a free cancellation policy just in case your student doesn’t pass the second audition.
A parent or guardian must drive and be responsible for their student at both of the auditions and also at the event. Parents must provide transportation, lodging, and food at the event in Athens. I will be present at both of the auditions and the event, as well, but all choir directors will be assigned duties. Your parent will be your chaperone.
